GERMANY & AUSTRIA
GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, BAD HARING AND SALZBURG (7th - 16th June 2024)
Trip Overview
Our company’s supplier from Austria invited us for their biennial conference in a small village called Bad Haring, about two hours south of Munich, Germany and two hours west from Salzburg, Austria. Three of us were invited, which are YH (Adventure Name: Star BR:@), AS (Adventure Name: madBR:@) and me. YH had never been to Europe, so he was understandably super excited! The fourth member of the trip, DA (Adventure Name: allanBR:@), would join us after the conference, where he would attend a training module together with AS and YH, while I left for home.
As usual, before the trip, I would scour the internet for places to visit and potential adventures to experience, and that’s when we discovered a small town called Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany – located just at the border with Austria, and not too far from Munich where we landed. Also, not too distant from Bad Haring. We used Garmisch-Partenkirchen as our base from which to visit the surrounding attractions, including Zugspitze (the tallest mountain in Germany), Partnachklamm (a scenic hike along a raging gorge), Linderhof Palace in Ettal (the smallest of the three palaces built by King Ludwig II), Oberammergau (a small village with an interesting history) and others.
We managed to book an AirBnb unit in Bad Haring, which was just a 5-minute drive to the conference location. Immediately after the conference, one of the staff from our wonderful host company, PZ (Adventure Name: BR:@PaulZ) treated us to an unexpected visit to Hintertux Glacier, one of only two places in Europe where skiing is possible all year round. I had explained to the hosts that I have had several close “near-miss” encounters with glaciers, but never physically touched one. So, they thought it would be a great idea to bring us to Hintertux, so that I could cut off a bucket list item.
We would meet up with DA on Day 7 in Salzburg, Austria where we spent the next two days. I had already been to Salzburg in 2017, but since the rest haven’t, I brought them to the same few famous places. However, we added a few new things to my adventures this time round, and I can’t wait to share them!
