SWITZERLAND
SWITZERLAND (15th - 24th September 2022)
Wifey (Adventure Name: BR:@’s Better Half) and me planned this trip when we discovered that the Swiss government was promoting travel to Switzerland by subsidizing flights coming into the country. At this point in time, the whole world was just crawling out of the Covid pandemic, and many travel restrictions were still in place in some countries.
Many people were still fearful of travelling beyond the confines of their homes and adventuring was the last thing on their minds. While others (mostly the vaccinated) would look for opportunities such as this, which was just too good to miss. Plus, both Wifey and me had already contracted Covid by then, and the travel bug had bitten us hard.
When our dear friends BL (Adventure Name: BrianL BR:@ JYY) and his wife WN (Adventure Name: BR:@ SHY) from our local parish heard about our planned trip, they requested to join us. On one condition – they had to follow our adventure itinerary! Since Wifey and me love hiking, that would be high on our agenda, and since they committed to the hikes, we decided also to “train” together. So, weeks before our trip, we went on several walks together (Bro Ray: On one of those days it was raining, so walked around in a mall!).

As we did not book our flights together, BL and WN ended up flying and arriving a day earlier than us – so they waited in Lucerne for us to arrive. From Lucerne, we would travel across the country to various destinations and many interesting places, such as Interlaken, Montreux, Zermatt and several small towns in between, before we headed back to Zurich. We even threw in a day trip to St. Gallen to visit a famous library.
The map below shows the locations of cities where we put up at least a night in (circled in black). The journey would take us from Zurich in the north, almost all the way to the southwest, near to the Italian border, before we looped back to Zurich.
In general, our trip would bring us to many mountaintops, with magnificent views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains, picturesque alpine lakes, spectacular hiking trails and a little adventure here and there. Plus, visits to some quaint old villages with their surrounding meadows and fields, and a few unique symbolic landmarks. If I could sum this adventure into one word, that word would be “complete”.
